A formula in Popular Culture as described in my own
words, is a roadmap that leads to something, some event, behavior, characteristic,
etcetera. Steroids in sports today being
the topic that I have been discussing in weeks past is the end result or item at
the finish line for the formula in this particular case (Browne, 2005, pg. 115).
Athletes of all kinds and from all sports have admitted
to and have admitted to using performance enhancing drugs at some point in
their careers as professional athletes.
Some of these athletes have long since retired and are out of their
respected sport or serve in a managerial or coaching role at the time that
their steroid use has come into light (Hoffman, 2008).
As I have said before athletes today are under a lot of
stress and they know that should they not be able to produce the results that
are the standard that there are hundreds that are willing to do their job
should they be given the opportunity. The peer pressure, stress from coaching staff,
are all factors in the formula that results in steroid use in the sports
arena. Players are striving to keep t
heir large pay scale to support the life that they have worked so hard to
achieve. Many athletes see that those
before them have used steroids which aided in their performance and certain
abilities. These players of the past may
have been many of today’s athlete’s heroes and role models which in the end
resulted in the acceptance of performance enhancing drugs by young athletes
today (Hoffman, 2008).
It is my opinion that based upon the principle of formula
that there are a lot of factors that lead to steroid use and performance enhancing
drug s among athletes young and old today.
I believe that the many factors and stresses that include past use, the
belief that the drugs are needed to be competitive, use by role models, fierce
competition by up and coming athletes, etc. are all to blame in part for the
drug abuse that occurs among athletes today.

ReplyDeleteI thought that you did good on analyzing your article, i found your consumption to be very interesting and thought your article selection was a great choice considering the many athletes who are now coming forward admitting to using illegal drugs to enhance there performance, while jeopardizing there trophy's, careers, and for those who have retired, there legendary fame. again good job.
